10 Things Babies Have Taught Me

10 things from a Mother Me night doula that every parent needs to know.

10 Things Babies Have Taught Me

1. Love at first sight does happen, but it does not have to. A love that develops slowly over time is just as potent.
2. Sometimes it is "all about them".
3. Sometimes it is "all about me", and we are entitled to look after ourselves as much as our babies.
4. If chopping onions when the baby is sleeping, close the baby room door or they may wake up crying with sore eyes.
5. There is always a reason for a baby to cry; sometimes we just don't understand what they are telling us.
6. More snuggle time and less gear is what babies need.
7. Lots and lots of people can love and care for a baby. Mom and dad are still terrific parents if they ask for and receive help.
8. Moms, dads, babies, cats, dogs, friends and family members are happier if they get enough sleep. Every one should sleep when the baby sleeps, or take turns when the baby does not sleep, but, yes you really can stay up all night!
9. Babies can sleep through any thing. If we keep the house quiet then the babies lose this ability. Keep making noise so the baby can "sleep like a baby".
10. You need two more arms than the number of babies you are caring for therefore we all need at least three arms, or help.
