Kung Hei Fat Choi 2012!

Mother Me Welcomes Dragon Babies!

One of the best parts of our job is working with clients from different cultures and learning new ways for us to take care of new moms.

Cultures

Asian - during the confinement period for the first month after the baby is born. Most new mothers prefer to stay with their mother one month prior to delivery and on month post natal this gives them the opportunity to be “mothered by their mother”. At this time they are to eat foods that will help their body heal plenty of ginger and black chicken soup.

Indonesian and Malaysian - the new mother is discouraged from leaving their house also the new mother is forbidden to cook and clean during this time. She will receive a daily massage and herbal bathes

India - both the baby and the mother receive daily massages called maalish this helps with blood circulation for the baby they might hire a dai someone who is specially trained in newborn massage.

Islamic - the 7th, 14th, and 21st day after birth, the celebration of aqiqih or aqqa occurs. Parents serve cow, goat or lamb and invite their community for the celebration and at the same time the baby’s name is announced.

As you walk down the path of parenthood, Mother Me would like to help you take the first step.
